Billing Specialist for Ophthalmology JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Billing Specialist– for Multi-Specialty Ophthalmology Practice with an emphasis on Retina and Cataracts treatment
REPORTS TO: Executive Team Members, CEO, CFO and Office Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Seeking an Ophthalmology (mostly Retina) billing and collections specialist. We are a Multi-Specialty Ophthalmology practice with three locations in North Clearwater, St. Petersburg and New Port Richey Florida, who is seeking a professional that wants to be part of a fast growing company with excellent growth potential. Communication skills are vital as well as a highly motivated individual. Experience in NextGen, for billing, coding and reporting is required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • At least 5 years of billing and coding related experience in Ophthalmology. • The right candidate has a working knowledge of negotiating health insurance contracts. • Strong computer skills are required; advance knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with a fully-integrated medical office software package is required
Job Duties • Collection on insurance past due accounts • Help improve processes and efficiency in Billing Department using NextGen • Provided with a monthly Accounts Receivable report of outstanding claims to be collected • Follow up on previous corrected claims and appeals • Obtained retro authorizations and referrals when applicable • Review monthly Accounts Receivable report at month end to identify trends or changes to provide feedback on billing process with management • Works on special projects as needed • Assists patients with billing questions

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Competent in NextGen and all the reports and tools it provides to help improve billing • Along with quantitative and analytical skills, we are seeking someone with strong writing and communication skills • Working knowledge with Medicare, Medicare Replacements and Commercial Insurance companies • Must possess strong time management, follow up skills and organizational skills • Must have working knowledge of appeals processes • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and take direction • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Software; including Word and Excel • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Familiarity with current CPT and ICD codes and laws • Hardworking, self-motivated, positive attitude, eagerness to grow • Reliable, passionate and eager to work for a business that offers growth for many years to come
