Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Chair, Department of Ophthalmology.
NCH – a nationally recognized pediatric hospital – has been the dominant provider of specialized medical and surgical services for children and young adults in Central and Southeastern Ohio. The past decade has been a period of significant expansion and academic transformation for NCH. Ranked No. 7 of only 10 children's hospitals for The Best Children's Hospitals 2017-18: Honor Roll in U.S. News & World Report NCH is one of the nation's largest, not-for-profit, freestanding pediatric healthcare networks providing wellness, preventive, diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative care for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as adult patients with congenital disease.
As the Ophthalmology Department at NCH continues its growth trajectory, the organization is seeking to identify an outstanding individual to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology. The Chair, will have the opportunity to significantly shape the future of the Department and its faculty's practice (Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates Inc, “PAO”). They will be expected to expand the scale and sub-specialty focus of Practice's services and the scholarly activities (education and research) of the faculty and, by doing so, position NCH at the forefront of advancing the frontier of eye care for children with visual impairment and disease through clinical and basic research to one that is nationally recognized.
The selected candidate will provide oversight and strategic direction for the Department including its clinical programs and its academic research programs with a focus on establishing collaborative interactions with other centers and research groups procuring clinical extramural grants to support innovation and new knowledge. Ultimately, the Chair will promote national presence and recognition of the Department of Ophthalmology at NCH and the POA, and serve as a champion for the Department as the leader of this academic physician team.
The successful candidate's academic record will be suitable for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor in the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. As a thought leader and clinical-research champion for both NCH and POA, the Chair will have an exceptional opportunity to build on the considerable strengths of existing clinical and research programs at NCH by expanding the research portfolio and development of new collaborative strategies and initiatives.
