Tired of dealing with large bureaucracies while watching your overhead disappear into big buildings, satellite offices and the senior partner’s mountain lodge? Do you want to feel like your skills are needed and appreciated, rather than fight with a bunch of other retina specialists at the feeding trough? Finally, can you consider moving to a place that is a great and inexpensive location to raise a family?
If you answered yes, no or maybe to any of the above questions, you may want to look at our practice. We are two aging retina docs whose time--as the Ghost of Christmas Present said--is growing short. We also aren’t big on buy-ins and extended partnership tracks. We don’t have a specific contract drawn up yet, but we visualize bringing someone in for several months to see if we can get along, and if things go well the new person can become a full partner right away.
Right now we both do medical retina, and we only have one office—it is located at the hospital where retinal surgery is done. We have FA and SD-OCT, but not OCT-A or electrophysiology. We don’t have EHR yet; we decided to take the penalty because it is cheaper. Plus, we can still do things like talk to our patients. We also do ROP, but you can decide if you want to continue that.
Fort Wayne has great schools and inexpensive housing. There are a lot of activities in town, and the city is surrounded by rural areas with many outdoor activities and easy access to a number of lakes. We are within two to three hours of Chicago, Indianapolis, Detroit and Toledo, and the local airport has direct flights to regional hubs, although most destinations require two flights.
If any of this is intriguing, give us a call or email.
