Stony Brook University School of Medicine is seeking candidates and nominees for Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology. The Chair has overall responsibility for advancing the clinical, educational and research missions of the Department.
Candidates should possess strong academic credentials evidenced by a track record of successful extramural funding and scholarly accomplishments; a training track record that documents a commitment to medical education and mentoring of young faculty and fellows; experience with the management of a complex clinical practice within a medical center setting and in the oversight of clinical, education and research budgets; possess the ability to establish effective operational practices that create an environment that supports the missions of the department; demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct and a commitment to diversity and have a track record of recruiting and retaining outstanding clinical, educational and research (basic and translational) faculty; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and a demonstrated ability to provide leadership within a complex organization. Experience in budgetary and personnel management is strongly preferred.
Required Academic and Professional Credentials: The successful candidate will have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree, be board certified in Ophthalmology and be eligible for, or have a license to practice medicine in New York State. Prior experience in leadership position is essential. The successful candidate must be eligible for a senior faculty appointment in accordance with the criteria established by the School of Medicine for appointment, promotion and tenure.
