We are in the process of looking to hire another fellowship-trained cornea specialist to join Michigan Cornea Consultants, PC here in suburban Detroit. We are a unique practice in that we are 3 fellowship-trained cornea specialists (one from the University of Iowa and 2 from the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute) in an academically-oriented private practice whose focus is corneal and external diseases. Michigan Cornea Consultants is a very busy, 3 office practice. We see a stimulating mix of medical and surgical cornea and external disease problems that have enabled each of us to enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding career. The diversity of pathology provides material for collaborative efforts with other ophthalmologists locally, with other cornea specialists nationally, for ongoing case reports, and fodder for discussion with each other and with our residents. We are active faculty for local ophthalmology residencies, including those at William Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak, William Beaumont Hospital - Dearborn and the Detroit Osteopathic Consortium, lecturing monthly, staffing resident surgeries, and having residents rotate in our office year-round. We regularly participate in collaborative NIH and industry research projects, often being among the national leaders in patient recruitment (CDS, CPTS, Avedro KXL, etc.).
At Michigan Cornea Consultants, our practice and academic efforts are well supported by the community and we enjoy excellent interaction and collaboration with comprehensive and sub-specialty ophthalmologists, optometrists and the overall medical community. We have worked hard over nearly 3 decades to establish our reputation both locally and nationally and are proud to know that we are the “go to” cornea practice for much of the local medical community. We would expect someone joining us to become actively involved in this community and to contribute to the further enhancement of the practice’s good name.
We are looking for an associate to join us in 2018 or 2019; someone who is passionate about corneal and external diseases, enjoys patient care in a team context, is interested in teaching at various levels and ultimately sees themselves as an integral member of Michigan Cornea Consultants. We anticipate that one member of the practice will be stopping surgery and cutting back in the office in mid-2019 and that a second member will begin to slow down a year or two after that. All current practitioners are partners and we would hope that any new associate will become a partner in the practice within two to three years.
1. Fellowship training in cornea and external diseases 2. Good corneal and cataract surgical skills 3. Ophthalmology board certification (within 1 year of employment)
