Lahey Health is offering a position for either a medical or surgical retina specialist to join the Department of Ophthalmology. We are a physician-led, multi-disciplinary group practice of more than 700 doctors. Our 2 hospitals and multiple offices are located in the northern and western suburbs of Boston; our physicians enjoy easy access to the city without having to commute to it. The area provides excellent school systems, abundant cultural activities, and convenient access to the mountains and seacoast.
Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, a 317-bed tertiary care facility and outpatient clinic, is a level II trauma center and located in Burlington, MA. A second hospital with ambulatory surgery center is located in Peabody, MA.
The Lahey Ophthalmology Department has 4 offices and a state of the art ambulatory surgery center in Peabody. The ambulatory surgery center has Constellation vitrectomy machines, Ngenuity, Lumera microscopes, endoscopic vitrectomy and access to a broad array of instruments. Our offices are similarly well equipped with OCTs, fluorescein/ICG angiography including Optos, ERG, argon lasers including PASCAL and pneumatic/cryopexy. A well trained group of technicians, photographers and scribes assist the ophthalmology practice.
In collaboration with Beth Israel Medical Center (BIDMC), we have a 2 year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship (one position/year) which consistently matches outstanding residents from top ophthalmology residency programs.
The current five retina specialists cover the Lahey offices as well as several well equipped and staffed private offices. Due to significant growth, a sixth retina specialist is needed. The successful applicant will join a dynamic ophthalmology service with 16 comprehensive and sub-specialty ophthalmologists and 9 optometrists. Expected practice locations include Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, BIDMC and/or Cambridge Health Alliance and affiliated practices in southern New Hampshire.
We are part of the residency program of Tufts/New England Eye Center and our MDs qualify for academic appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine. Our department has a longstanding teaching and service relationships with ophthalmology clinics in Egypt, Turkey and El Salvador.
We are seeking a fellowship-trained medical or surgical retina specialist who is board certified or eligible with excellent clinical skills. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in resident teaching, collaborate with colleagues engaged in research activities and participate in academic and administrative projects. Research interests are welcomed and supported through internal grants and endowment, but are not a requirement for this position.
