My partner and I are looking for a comprehensive ophthalmologist willing to work hard and do a lot of surgery. If you would like to be very busy with light call, and live in a city with great schools and many lakes, this would be a good fit. I did my residency and cornea fellowship at Bascom Palmer from 1999-2003.
Here are the nuts and bolts of my practice:
2 ophthalmologist practice – very busy (average over 1000 cataracts / doctor / year and growing)
We cover Oshkosh and several surrounding communities.
Call: we share call with another 2 ophthalmology practice in town. Call is q4 and we take one week at a time. Call is easy - I get 1-4 calls per week on average. There are some weeks I get no calls at all. There is Less than one open globe per year.
Looking to join with other practice in town to become 4 MD ophthalmology practice
Surgery Center is doctor owned in Oshkosh, is very efficient and well run. We do surgeries in surrounding communities at their hospital; I can schedule 16 cataracts in a morning at hospitals.
What I like about Oshkosh:
Big lakes surround the city
Low cost of living
If you have kids, like boating, like outdoors, it’s fantastic! My wife and I are a bit snobby with food, but we have great places to eat. I do lots of biking (road bike), catamaran sailing and water skiing. My wife and I have high expectations of the schools and have decided not to send our kids to parochial schools since the public system has been so good. Travel to Chicago is 3 hours, Mpls is 4.5 hours. Appleton is 20 miles away with big name shows and concerts.
I’m hoping to find someone who would fit well with the practice. In my experience, there was still a lot to learn when I went into practice, especially in relationships with optometrists. I would be happy to impart my learned wisdom and help make this a great practice for you.
