The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is searching for a positive, open-minded, and motivational leader to serve as our Department Administrator. This position will provide administrative leadership and operational expertise for our clinical, educational, and research programs. A master's degree in business administration, finance, or health care administration is required.
Ten or more years of progressively responsible professional experience with a record of significant accomplishments in managing complex organizations, departments, or programs, preferably in an academic medical center. A demonstrated understanding and recognition of the academic medical center's multiple missions of teaching, research, clinical, and community service.
Knowledge and Skills:
Possesses a deep knowledge of academic medicine and strategies for success.
Experience in guiding, leading, motivating, and assessing professional teams.
Participates in strategic planning and leadership in developing and implementing ideas and processes.
Demonstrated ability, experience and knowledge of best practices in finance, clinical practice plan, human resources, grants administration, IT and facilities.
Knowledge of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting.
Proven negotiation skills.
Demonstrates a commitment to improving work flows/work processes.
Ability to serve as a leader for the Department Leadership Team.
Understands new issues quickly and makes wise, policy-based decisions.
Ability to inspire confidence, create trust, and empower others.
