Manager Billing Operations – Department of Ophthalmology UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX Full-time, Day Shift
Directs and manages daily operation of the Ophthalmology Department billing office to ensure all charges are processed and billed accurately and in a timely manner.
Analyzes, recommends and implements policies and procedures as needed to maximize reimbursement for all services rendered in compliance with established third party guidelines.
Designs and compiles periodic financial reports for management to include analysis of revenue and medical service activity.
Establishes, maintains, reviews and implements fee schedules and strategic business plans which promote competitiveness with community physicians and provide maximum return to department.
Coordinates billing and collection efforts with UTSHS, affiliated institutions, all other third party payers, and other clinical departments.
Acquires and maintains thorough knowledge of Federal and State Legislative and Administrative action affecting physician reimbursement; disseminates acquired knowledge to faculty.
Delineates auditing and billing policies and procedures to ensure maximization of revenue for department.
Develops billing policies and procedures for new technology and services.
Develops standardized forms and procedures according to subspecialty to facilitate billings.
Assists in computation and compilation of annual department budget and incentive data.
Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent and 11 years’ experience in physician practice plan, healthcare, or medical insurance environment that include 3 years of supervisory experience and previous exposure to hospital or physician billing.
Bachelor's degree and certified as a Professional Coder (CPC), Advanced Records Technician (ART), or Registered Records Administrator (RRA) preferred.
Experience in Ophthalmology Billing and Coding preferred.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
