Maine Eye, a premier, multispecialty, private ophthalmology practice, seeks a board-certified/eligible ophthalmologist to serve as the Medical Director for the Maine Eye General Ophthalmology Clinic and Site Director for the Ophthalmology Teaching Program for Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education at Maine Medical Center (MMC).
Job responsibilities include:
Training and reviewing students enrolled in the Ophthalmology Teaching Program
Coordination of a Pre-Residency Fellowship Program including the selection, scheduling, teaching and training of candidates
Seeing a combination of regular general and urgent care ophthalmology patients in the General Clinic
Inpatient consults Maine Medical Center
Treating all new patient urgent care referrals under the Coverage Program with the hospital
Performing cataract surgery on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
Maine Eye is a physician-owned private practice with a four room ASC, 11 MD's , 5 optometrists and a strong referral base. Maine Medical Center is a 637-bed designated “Magnet Hospital.” Maine Eye and Maine Medical Center have a long-standing close working relationship, and the Medical Center is affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. The General Ophthalmology clinic serves as the foundation for MMC undergraduate teaching rotations in ophthalmology and addresses important community needs caring for a population with complex ophthalmic conditions. The clinic team works closely with all subspecialty services.
The position will afford the graduate an opportunity to gain exposure to ophthalmology, burnish skills in ophthalmic evaluation and treatment, and participate in clinical research.
