The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a BC/BE Comprehensive Ophthalmologist to join our Department. The new associate will have the opportunity to practice truly "comprehensive" comprehensive ophthalmology and will help to grow the department's ophthalmic primary care effort by fostering ties to the primary and specialty care physicians at the main (Oakland) campus of UPMC in Pittsburgh. In addition, this faculty member will take an active role in the education of ophthalmology residents. Research opportunities are available.
Our department accepts six residents each year as well as fellows in each ophthalmic subspecialty. It is comprised of 39 clinical faculty and 23 basic scientists. The UPMC Eye Center is the faculty practice plan for Ophthalmologists affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Physicians and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The practice is comprised of 39 physicians, and offers the full spectrum of general and specialty ophthalmic services to residents of southwestern Pennsylvania. The main clinics are located on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Community-based satellite clinics are operated in key geographic areas surrounding the greater Pittsburgh metro-area. As a university-based practice, physicians typically maintain faculty teaching appointments to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Eye and Ear Institute also provides clinicians with opportunities to engage in research activities.
